Joanne says “as a qualified Architect I paint as a way to escape reality, to free my mind. Having studied A level Art & Design, my drawing and painting has always been in the background of my professional career. However, over the few years, I have made time to explore painting once more”.
Her interest in gardening has made her aware of the intricacy of nature which has been her main subject base; the vibrant colour of flowers and their integral structure. Her inspiration comes from closing in on the centres of the flowers, but changing the scale of the flower as it is naturally experienced, allowing her to create almost abstract representations. She is now turning her interest to the body, which she has explored for many years in charcoal studies as and when possible, through life drawing. The muscular form, combined with the light and tone of the skin is what she wants to explore further as her work progresses, exploring how the movement of the body changes the tension in the structure.
Following a successful exhibition at Studley Village Hall last year, Joanne have recently exhibited at Redditch Library. As a member of Studley Art Circle, her work is exhibited annually at the October Exhibition and you can see all her work on her Facebook page.
